By the summer of the following year this number had grown to 50 OEM partnerships with various fax-modem and computer system manufacturers to bundle the "LITE" version of Delrina's WinFax software with their own products. Within a few months, eight modem manufacturers had agreed to bundle this OEM version (called " WinFax LITE") of the program along with their own product. At the same time that it launched its WinFax PRO 2.0 product, Delrina also announced an OEM version of the same product designed to be bundled with new fax/modems. Prior to the introduction of WinFax PRO 2.0, competitors concentrated primarily on building software that would only work with a single brand of fax/modem hardware. One of the key factors that differentiated this version of WinFax from other fax software packages of the time was the deliberate attempt to make the program compatible with all fax/modems. This was remedied with the launch of the WinFax PRO 2.0 product during the summer of 1991. The initial version of WinFax only worked on fax modems containing a specific chipset, and was only capable of sending faxes it could not receive them.
The last version of WinFax, version 10, did not include any TalkWorks functionality.īy the time WinFax PRO 7.0 was being sold from retail shelves, Delrina had been acquired by Symantec. Symantec later sold TalkWorks as separate products named TalkWorks PRO 2.0 (August 1998) and TalkWorks PRO 3.0 (August 1999). Its voice mail capabilities were options available to WinFax PRO 7.0, 7.5 and 8.0. Delrina was subsequently bought out in 1995 by Symantec, and continued its development.

Professional Edition also includes Norton Ghost 2002 and WinFax 10.0 Basic Edition.ĪudioFile was bought by Delrina in October 1994, and its technology was bundled into WinFax as part of CommSuite 95. Professional Edition also includes Norton Ghost 2001 and WinFax 10.0 Basic Edition. Today, current versions of Symantec's WinFax PRO no longer support TalkWorks or include any voice mail capabilities. 1 year later, TalkWorks PRO 3.0 was released and was the last version of TalkWorks PRO developed.
TalkWorks PRO 2.0 was released in August 1998, which was essentially WinFax PRO 9.0 with voice mail capabilities. Symantec decided that TalkWorks would be sold as a separate product with the release of WinFax PRO 9.0 in 1998. TalkWorks voice mail capabilities were included as a standard feature with the release of WinFax PRO 7.5 (October, 1996) and WinFax PRO 8.0 (March, 1997). When Delrina was bought by Symantec in late 1995, the company acquired this product as well, and continued its development, and its optional add-on voice mail capabilities were first available with WinFax PRO version 7.0. WinFax (also known as WinFax PRO) is a Microsoft Windows-based software product designed to let computers equipped with fax-modems to communicate directly to stand-alone fax machines, or other similarly equipped computers. Symantec continued to market, develop and release four additional major versions of the WinFax PRO software product under the Symantec WinFax PRO banner. The "Lite" version of WinFax 3.0 was bundled as OEM software by a number of fax-modem manufacturers, which was later be superseded by WinFax Lite 4.0 a couple of years later.īy the time WinFax PRO 7.0 was being sold from retail shelves, Delrina had been acquired by Symantec in 1995. This was followed by a version for Macintosh systems.
